Gentle renovation or effective corrosion protection even in problem areas
Blasting with sharp blasting abrasives is indisputably one of the most efficient and reliable pre-treatment methods in the field of steel corrosion protection. Time after time – above all in the renovation of existing structures – situations are encountered in which this is not possible; whether because of the geometry of the object or also due to unfavourable underlying conditions. At times like these, the only alternative is so-called manual rust removal with disk sanders, wire brushes, etc., in conjunction with which the removal of corrosion products, an old coating or rusty galvanizing without leaving a residue is extremely difficult, or even impossible. So what can be done? Does a substrate that has been pre-treated according to St 3 provide suitable protection? – Yes!
COROPUR bonding and insulating primer performs three important functions: - It consolidates and seals weathered paints and coatings and produces a stable substrate - It insulates any iron oxide and hydrates of iron that are still present and stops corrosion in this way - It protects the steel from corrosion by impeding the diffusion of water and oxygen All in all, COROPUR self-etching and insulating primer provides perfect conditions – even at low temperatures – for a subsequent high-quality corrosion-resistant coating. ECLON EP OT Primer is suitable for a wide range of surfaces and lets you really get to grips with residual rust. The epoxy resin-based primer, which must be applied as a rule in a comparatively high layer thickness, wets the substrate reliably and a largely stable layer is produced thanks to its high diffusion-resistance, which has both an insulating and a protective effect at the same time. The subsequent application of an intermediate primer made of EP micaceous iron oxide based on epoxy resin, or its barrier effect, increases the corrosion protection many times over, and a PU finish coat completes the qualitatively outstanding "gentle renovation".
