The gangway spans 60 metres at a height of 8 metres. Its angular form is due to the two exit points not being aligned together. It consists of three parts, the facetted-surfaces design results from the diagonal twisting of load-bearing flat steel panels, which are welded to a stiff structure, and glazed lightweight construction components. Made in Switzerland, it was shipped to Liverpool in three parts, where it was assembled in a single night using a clever assembly plan.
